College Basketball Betting: Analyzing the ACC

The teams with the best records also were the best bets in the Atlantic Coast Conference last year, a trend which college basketball betting fans will watch closely this season. Straight up (SU), against the spread (ATS), and over/under (O/U) records for the 2006/07 season are in parentheses:

 

NORTH CAROLINA (36-3 SU, 23-11-2 ATS, 23-13 O/U): Tyler Hansbrough (22.6 PPG, 10.2 RPG) leads a Tar Heel team favored to win it all.

Home Favorite:  9-3-1

Home Underdog:  0-0

Away Favorite:  7-4

Away Underdog:  1-0

Neutral site:   6-4-1

Sportsbook Buster: The Tar Heels were 15-2 ATS in non-conference games last season.

Sports Betting Angle: UNC was 9-3-1 ATS at home last season.

 

DUKE (28-6 SU, 17-15-1 ATS, 16-15-2 O/U): The Blue Devils don’t have much of a paint presence but can light it up from outside.

MARYLAND (19-15 SU, 12-16-1 ATS, 13-16 O/U): Greivis Vasquez (17.0 PPG) lead a strong backcourt but the Terrapins could get hurt up front.

BOSTON COLLEGE (14-17 SU, 11-15 ATS, 15-11 O/U): Tyrese Rice (21.0 PPG) can get it done but he doesn’t have much help.
